More Greek Islands (August 2016)

We dialed up another trip to Greece before the real-world/ school year descended upon us. This time we visited the islands of Paxos and Corfu. As previously promised - not my best work, but at least my backlog is staying below 12 months.

Corfu, Paxos, and Antipaxos (the really small one to the southeast)
Our journey began a little before we left home at 02:30 - a little early for my taste. But our early flight got us to Corfu - the much larger of the two islands - to see a bit of the sunrise from the plane. A short taxi from the airport to the coast and we hopped on a water taxi for the 90 minute ride to Paxos. Free at last, we began driving around the island about 8 hours after leaving home.
The beginning of the boat ride

Some period of time into the boat ride... One of us is a morning person.

The entire island amounts to less than 12 square miles, but has been inhabited for thousands of years. I won't waste time trying to describe it.

Great house! Crazy-steep entry road though... Had to hit it hard from the road to get to the driveway at the top!

The road into the little town of Paxos.

One of the public beaches/ bar/restaurants we visited more than once.

Different restaurant

This was my favorite spot on the island - hard to get to, but nobody around and incredible in every way.

The path to get there...

Holli surveying the Ionian/ Mediterranean

I might have been trespassing, but I had to hike up into the hills. This is near the top of an olive tree grove/ farm.
The island of Panagia is in the center. Home to a church and not much else.

There were some really big goats living in the area. These were babies.

Maybe not the greatest choice for a captain. But at least we got out on the water for a few hours.

Somehow we did not take many pictures from the boat. Probably a good thing as we had some issues.

Holli at least got this nice shot of Lilli.

Downtown Paxos, on the water. That is a full-size bus somehow making its way through a street so narrow that that the restaurant patrons had to get up from their tables so it could fit through.

Classic.

Cats dig me. And there are a lot of them on the island.

I think this was abandoned, but it is hard to say for sure.
It was sitting in the parking area of one of the nicer beach areas.

After spending several warm and sunny days in Paxos, we woke early (of course) and took a ferry back across to Corfu. There was more to see in Corfu, but I think that we were able to hit the high spots and still get in some pool time.

Had to caffeinate after the ferry ride.

Outside the Museum of Asian Art

Not atypical of residential building exteriors across what I have seen of Europe.
It seems like it would be easy to be an electrician here, so long as you only do installs.

Much prettier than the last pic!

At the gate to the "Old Fortress"

Typical of fortress design, the walls are designed for those on top to be able to defend all of the various nooks and crannies.

It's not a bad place for a fort.

That's Eliza in the window. Isn't she cute? ;)

Saint George Church at the bottom (still at the Old Fortress)

Now we're talking! New Venetian Fortress! Built in the late 1500's.
Check out those modern lines!!

Pretty sure the machine gun swivel was added later.

Nice views all 'round - the Old Fortress in the background.

Lucy has other shirts, she just doesn't wear them.

We saw this guy that looks exactly like Clayton - down to the sunglasses, bag, and rolled-up sleeves.
His legs were much bigger though.

Kitty dreams / nightmares

So... We found a great Mexican place. Maybe the only one in Europe. We went for dinner both nights that we were in town!

They just happened to decorate their bar with the correct tequila. We celebrated their good taste just as you might imagine.
